Greetings from Ghana!

Well it’s hard to believe but I am already one month into my stay in Ghana! Things are good and I’m feeling settled and acclimatized.

Having never traveled or been away from home for this length of time before I wasn’t exactly sure how to plan the trip and manage my expectations. I have my list of things I hope to do, places I want to visit and people I need to see. Typically when coming to Ghana everything is so scheduled and each day I know where I will be and what I will be doing … time is always of the essence and we hit the ground running.

This time though, I gave myself permission to let my first month unfold however it may and try not to force things too much. I am a planner; it’s just what I do, so to ‘just go with the flow’ is not always easy, but definitely the right choice. I have spent time reconnecting with friends, discovering new places and attempting to just relax once and awhile. The best part so far has been all the amazing new people I have met. I am fascinated by people and their stories; there is so much to be learned from one another and inspiration to be found when you least expect it, so it’s important to make time and space to do so.

One friend has just left after a 3 week stay and my next visitor doesn’t arrive until early April. I’m excited for March as I can feel the planner in me starting to emerge again as I start to set up meetings and make my schedule.

I must admit I struggled a bit in writing this first blog because I think I felt an expectation for every day to be some kind of magical adventure. What I am realizing is life is life regardless of where we transplant ourselves and every day is our own personal adventure whether it makes for a good story or not. No matter where we find ourselves we will have good days, not so good days and average days. I am so grateful for this opportunity to experience life in Ghana and I know that at this moment in time I am exactly where I am meant to be, and that makes me happy!
