Wawa - The Logo

A quick little history on my logo and a story of strange coincidence. I am the proud Aunt of seven nieces and nephews. When my oldest niece Kim first started talking, about 23 years ago now, she couldn’t quite manage my name and what came out instead of Rhonda, was Wawa. It stuck, and from that day forward I was no longer Aunty Rhonda, I was Wawa! Fast forward 20 some years where I find myself in Ghana only to discover there is a West African Adinkra Symbol* for Wawa and that there is a Wawa tree!

Taken from http://www.adinkra.org/ :

WAWA ABA - "seed of the wawa tree"

symbol of hardiness, toughness and perseverance

The seed of the wawa tree is extremely hard. In Akan culture, it is a symbol of someone who is strong and tough. It inspires the individual to persevere through hardship.

With some help from my good friend Cyndi Slobodian we have stylized the symbol with an ‘R’ and there you have it … my new logo!

*Adinkra symbols are part of the Ashanti culture associated with Ghana, West Africa
